From Near Miss to Certified: How Praxis Bridge Is Changing the Game
Praxis Bridge continues to redefine how near-miss teacher candidates move forward in their certification journey. Designed for those who narrowly miss the passing score on their Praxis exams, this alternate pathway offers a targeted learning module instead of a full test retake. With 13 test titles now available, and more on the way this fall, Praxis Bridge is helping more candidates than ever turn near-misses into meaningful progress.
What Is Praxis Bridge?
Praxis Bridge is a targeted learning experience that reinforces specific content areas where a candidate needs support. Rather than retaking the entire exam, eligible candidates complete a focused module that includes structured learning, practice questions, and a final knowledge check. This approach not only saves time and money but also builds deeper understanding and confidence.
Expanded Reach, Proven Impact
Since its pilot, Praxis Bridge has grown significantly. Originally tested in partnership with Connecticut, West Virginia, and Kansas, the program now has been adopted in 13 states and territories and spans 13 test titles, offering broader access to candidates across multiple subject areas.
As of September 1, 2025 the following test titles have a Praxis Bridge path:
- Elementary Education: English Language Arts (Praxis 5002)
- Elementary Education: Teaching Reading (Praxis 7002)
- Elementary Education: Mathematics (Praxis 5003, 5903, 7003)
- Elementary Education: Social Studies (Praxis 5004, 5904, 7004)
- Elementary Education: Science (Praxis 5005, 5905, 7005)
- Core Academic Skills for Educators: Reading (Praxis 5713)
- Core Academic Skills for Educators: Writing (Praxis 5723)
- Core Academic Skills for Educators: Mathematics (Praxis 5733)
- Teaching Reading: Elementary (Praxis 5205)
- English Language Arts: Content Knowledge (Praxis 5038)
- Special Education: Foundational Knowledge (Praxis 5355)
- Principles of Learning and Teaching (PLT): Grades K-6 (Praxis 5622)
- Principles of Learning and Teaching (PLT): Grades 7-12 (Praxis 5624)
Praxis Bridge has helped over 2,300 candidates pass their exams, with an 81% completion rate among purchasers. With only 31% of eligible candidates currently taking advantage of Bridge, there’s a significant opportunity to scale impact through targeted awareness and outreach. EPPs can unlock this potential by embedding Praxis Bridge into advising and candidate communications — ensuring more future educators are equipped to succeed.
What Candidates Are Saying
Recent feedback from thousands of participants paints a powerful picture of Praxis Bridge’s impact:
Confidence and Clarity:
- 90% agreed the structured learning activities helped them understand key concepts.
- 91% felt the practice questions prepared them well for the final knowledge check.
- 84% strongly preferred this experience over retaking the full exam.
Ease of Use:
- 93% found the platform easy to navigate, contributing to a smoother learning experience.
Emotional Relief:
- Candidates consistently cited reduced stress and anxiety, with many describing the experience as “life-changing,” “a blessing,” and “a second chance.” For those with test anxiety or learning differences, the self-paced, untimed format was especially impactful.
Equity and Access:
- Many participants emphasized how Praxis Bridge felt more equitable, allowing them to demonstrate their knowledge in a way that traditional exams couldn’t capture. Several noted that the module helped them learn more effectively than the original test.
Looking Ahead
Praxis Bridge is more than an alternate test—it’s a strategic solution to strengthen the educator pipeline. By supporting near-miss candidates, it helps states retain talent, reduce certification barriers, and get qualified teachers into classrooms faster.
With expanded test titles and overwhelmingly positive feedback, Praxis Bridge is proving to be a transformative tool in teacher preparation.
