Our vision for education
Classroom teachers act as the bedrock of our society.
They have the power to ignite the sparks of inspiration and creativity in our future scientists, writers, engineers and historians.
Yet these unsung heroes face unprecedented challenges. The teacher shortage looms like a shadow: researchers have predicted that by 2024, the nation will be facing a deficit of over 300,000 educators. As the number of teachers declines, so do their salaries, which have decreased by an average of 3.2% since 2020.
In some cases, teachers find themselves needing to move for work, and although some states offer funding and resources to assist with this transfer, other states supply little insight into the financial, cultural and licensing requirements that new teachers will face.
In fact, a 2023 National Council on Teacher Quality study revealed that despite all the issues facing educators in the classroom, “none of the state retention initiatives ... were specifically designed to improve two key factors in teacher retention: school climate and leadership.” And all the while, resources dwindle as classroom sizes grow, which leaves students struggling under the guidance of teachers stretched dangerously thin.
A legacy of support
For over 30 years, Praxis® tests have been the gold standard for assessing teacher content knowledge in the classroom. We provide testing accommodations both in person and online for test takers’ convenience. And we deliver targeted score reports that illuminate teaching strengths as well as areas for growth so teacher candidates know where to concentrate their study time.
But this isn’t enough.
We’ve spent years perfecting assessments: now we’re assessing ourselves. We’re putting teachers first in everything we do and supporting them as they become classroom-ready, community-connected, and dedicated to a path of continuous growth.
Our evolution may have begun with a test, but today we help ensure that tomorrow's teachers have the content-knowledge confidence and pedagogical curiosity that will last a lifetime, no matter what form the classroom takes.
We're committed to equitable education that offers high-quality, low-cost aid and removes the barriers to entrance for educators from all walks of life. In addition, Praxis® has partnered with Study.com, and together, they'll offer study guides, online courses, and practice materials as well as research studies in conjunction with Keys to the Classroom, which will aim to combat the nationwide teacher shortage and diversify the teaching landscape.
Our free Tomorrow's Teacher webinar series will help lead aspiring educators through targeted practice questions and test-taking strategies. And through our work with ProEthica®, we'll give educators a framework through which they can make the best, most ethically principled decisions.
Taken as a whole, these developments will create a powerful forum to amplify educator voices as we work to better understand and support their unique needs.
