Elementary STEM teachers support students’ learning of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics in an integrated way by emphasizing the use of standard practices in the disciplines to develop design solutions and answer questions. Elementary STEM teachers have an understanding of computer science and technology that is relevant to the role and have the pedagogical knowledge needed to create a safe and effective learning environment for all elementary students.
Test takers typically have experience teaching in the elementary or secondary grades and have completed appropriate coursework in the STEM disciplines or computer science. The assessment is designed and developed through work with practicing teachers and teacher educators to reflect state and national standards for the preparation of elementary STEM teachers. These include the Standards for Technological and Engineering Literacy (2020) by the International Technology and Engineering Educators Association (ITEEA), the K-12 Computer Science Standards (2017) by the Computer Science Teachers Association (CSTA), the Standards for Educators (2017) by the International Society for Technology in Education (ISTE), and the Next Generation Science Standards (2013) by the National Science Teachers Association (NSTA). This test may contain some questions that will not count toward your score.
