The Pennsylvania Grades 4-8 Subject Concentration: English Language Arts test measures whether prospective Pennsylvania middle school English language arts teachers have the knowledge, skills, and abilities believed necessary for competent professional practice. The test is aligned to the Pennsylvania Academic Standards for Reading, Writing, Speaking, and Listening for Grades 4-8 and is informed by the Teacher Preparation Program Guidelines from the Pennsylvania Department of Education’s Framework for Grades 4-8.

It measures examinees’ skills and knowledge of concepts relevant to three categories: reading, including the study of literature (e.g., stories, drama, poetry) and informational texts (e.g., essays, biographies, speeches); writing; and media literacy and literacy development. The test may contain some questions that will not count toward your score.
