The purpose of the Mathematics and Science test is to assess whether the entry-level middle school teacher has the content knowledge that is important, necessary, and needed at time of entry to the profession in order to teach mathematics and science. The mathematics section of the test reflects the Pennsylvania Academic Standards for Mathematics, the Pennsylvania Core Mathematics Standards, and The Framework for Grades 4-8 Program Guidelines for Pennsylvania. The mathematics section is also aligned to the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics (NCTM) 2020 Standards for the Preparation of Middle Level Mathematics Teachers.
