Overview of Oregon Testing Requirements
All new teacher candidates or those wishing to become licensed in Oregon in the following areas only must take the appropriate Praxis Subject Assessments.
The Teacher Standards and Practices Commission (TSPC) contracts with ETS for the tests listed below. Find Oregon testing locations and test dates.
This overview of the testing requirements for Oregon pertains to licensure in the following areas:
- Agriculture Science
- Business Marketing
- Career Trades: Generalist
- Reading Interventionist
- Special Education: Deaf and Hard of Hearing
- Special Education: Early Interventionist
- Special Education: Visually Impaired
- Speech (Forensics)
- World Language: Latin
- World Language: Russian
Other important information:
- ETS discontinued paper-delivered testing.
- However, Praxis tests will continue to be available in a paper-delivered format as required for ADA accommodations.
- All scores for previously administered paper-delivered tests are reportable for 10 years from the date the test was taken.
- If you are seeking licensure in other areas, please contact the Oregon TSPC or visit the Oregon TSPC website.
- If you test in Oregon at a test center or at home, and your Praxis profile address is in Oregon, your score report will be sent automatically to the Oregon TSPC.
- If you test outside Oregon or your Praxis profile address is not in Oregon, your scores are NOT automatically sent to the Oregon TSPC. To have your scores sent to the Oregon TSPC, you must select the Oregon Teacher Standards and Practices Commission (state code 8700) as a score recipient when you register.
- For all methods of Praxis testing, to request additional score reports, you must select the Oregon Teacher Standards and Practices Commission (state code 8700) with each additional score report request.

Restricted Transitional License
- Restricted transitional licenses are issued to individuals who are making a mid-life career change. These can include attorneys wishing to become social-studies teachers, engineers wishing to become mathematics or science teachers, or registered nurses wishing to teach health.
- Applicants must have a bachelor's degree, and the sponsoring school district must provide a mentor.
- These licenses are valid for 3 years but are NOT renewable.
Limited License
- Limited licenses apply to those individuals with special expertise for which there is no endorsement. For example, a school may wish to have an ROTC program; another school may wish to provide a dance program.
- Applicants must have at least an associate's degree (community college), and the sponsoring school district must provide a mentor.
- These licenses are valid for 3 years, are limited to use in the applying district, and are renewable.
3-Year Professional Technical License
- A 3-year professional technical licence provides a way for people from industry to teach in an Oregon Department of Education-approved professional/technical program. These individuals may have recent work experience in electronics, construction, health occupations, accounting, childcare, or various other approved areas.
- Applicants for the 3-Year Professional Technical License must pass an examination by an Instructor Appraisal Committee. They must also have experience as a technician, journeyman, or manager.
- These licenses are valid for 3 years and are NOT renewable. However, the 5-Year Professional/Technical License is available upon completion of additional program requirements.
