Overview of Oklahoma Testing Requirements
Applicants for Speech-Language Pathology or School Psychologist should follow these steps to become certified in Oklahoma:
- If you have achieved national certification in your field (ASHA or NCSP), you may submit a copy of that current certification with an application (PDF), official transcripts, and a $50 fee to the Oklahoma State Department of Education (OSDE).
- If you completed an Oklahoma-approved program for Speech-Language Pathology or School Psychology, your college will submit an online recommendation for you once you have completed either the Oklahoma Subject Area Test (OSAT) or the appropriate Praxis content knowledge exam. Once your recommendation has been submitted, create an online account on the OSDE Single Sign-On so that you are able to apply and pay for your certificate online.
- All first-time certified individuals, or anyone who has held an Oklahoma certificate that expired more than 1 year ago, must submit an OSBI/FBI background check before the certificate can be issued. Review the Background Check for Teaching Certificate page for more information.
- If you test in Oklahoma at a test center or at home, and your Praxis profile address is in Oklahoma, your score report will be sent automatically to the Oklahoma State Department of Higher Education.
- If you test outside Oklahoma or your Praxis profile address is not in Oklahoma, your scores are NOT automatically sent to the Oklahoma State Department of Higher Education. To have your scores sent to the Oklahoma State Department of Higher Education, you must select the Oklahoma State Department of Higher Education (state code 6503) as a score recipient when you register.
- For all methods of Praxis testing, to request additional score reports, you must select the Oklahoma State Department of Higher Education (state code 6503) with each additional score report request.
