Overview of Nebraska Testing Requirements
Nebraska does not require passing a content test to obtain an initial teaching or administrative certificate as long as an applicant has completed an educator preparation program.
Content Test
Candidates who currently hold a regular Nebraska teaching or administrative certificate are eligible to add additional endorsements by taking and passing the appropriate Praxis Subject Assessment. The full list of approved endorsements may be found on their website.
Candidates who are looking to qualify for a temporary teaching certificate will need to take and pass the appropriate Praxis Subject Assessment. The full list of approved endorsements for a temporary teaching certificate may be found on their website.
Other Important Information
Nebraska law requires a Social Security Number (SSN) in order to apply for an educator or administrative certificate.
ETS does not require your SSN for its own purposes. Failure to provide your SSN will delay processing of your certification application in Nebraska.
- If you test in Nebraska at a test center or at home, and your Praxis profile address is in Nebraska, your score report will be sent automatically to the Nebraska Department of Education.
- If you test outside Nebraska or your Praxis profile address is not in Nebraska, your scores are NOT automatically sent to the Nebraska Department of Education. To have your scores sent to the Nebraska Department of Education, you must select the Nebraska Department of Education (state code 7643) as a score recipient when you register.
- For all methods of Praxis testing, to request additional score reports, you must select the Nebraska Department of Education (state code 7643) with each additional score report request.
Am I required to take the Praxis test?
The only applicants who are required to take a praxis content test are those looking to qualify for a temporary teaching certificate.
How and when do I register for the test?
You may register for a test whenever you are ready. Please be aware, Nebraska cannot issue a temporary certificate or added endorsement until they have official passing test scores. If you are ready to begin, locate a test center or schedule your test.
How can I be certain that my scores are reported to the correct institutions?
It is very important that you indicate your institution and the Nebraska Department of Education (NDE) as score recipients during the registration process.
Will my test scores be valid in other states?
Each state has different requirements for certification. Review information about requirements in other states that use ETS tests.
