Overview of ASHA Certification Requirements
The Praxis exam in Audiology (5343) test is an integral component of the ASHA audiology certification standards, and it is the only national audiology test that meets ASHA’s certification standard. To qualify apply for the Certificate of Clinical Competence in Audiology certification, an applicants must:
- receive a passing score on the Praxis Audiology test;
- submit the certification application;
- submit all required documentation; and
- include a dues and fees payment with their application
Audiology Certification
Note: The Praxis Audiology test scores are reported on a 100–200 score scale in 1-point increments. The test code for the Audiology test is 5343. The passing score for ASHA certification and for the state boards of examiners on the new scale is 162. ASHA recommends that students take the test during their final year of study. The exam is outcome based and depends on the student being able to engage in clinical decision-making.
ASHA will continue to accept a passing score on the Praxis test (both the 5342 and 0342 test codes) if this version is required by your state’s licensing agency. The passing score on this version of the test is 170.

The Praxis Speech-Language Pathology (5331) test is an integral component of ASHA speech-language pathology certification standards, and it is the only national speech-language pathology test that meets ASHA’s certification standard. To apply for the Certificate of Clinical Competence in Speech-Language Pathology (CCC-SLP), applicants must
- receive a passing score on the Praxis Speech-Language Pathology test;
- submit the certification application;
- submit all required documentation; and
- include a dues and fees payment with their application.

Note: The Praxis Speech-Language Pathology (SLP) test scores are reported on a 100–200 score scale in1-point increments. The test code for the Speech-Language Pathology test is 5331. The passing score for ASHA certification and for the state boards of examiners is 162. ASHA recommends that students take the test during their final year of study. The exam is outcome based and depends on the student being able to engage in clinical decision-making.
